Paul Holmes (b. 25th August 1931) is a British Conservative politician who currently represents the constituency of Beckenham. He is currently serving in the British Cabinet as Secretary of State for Energy.
Holmes was born in Bromley, South East London. He attended Oxford University and gained First Class Honours in History and Politics. His family are the owners of A.Searle and Company where Holmes served as Managing Director until 1970 when he entered parliament as MP for Beckenham. Holmes lists his interests as History, Golf and eating. He is married to Elizabeth Holmes (46) and has two children, Jack (18) and Henry (10).
Parliamentary Career Edit
Holmes was elected to serve the Outer London seat of Beckenham at the 1970 General Election. In 1971 Edward Heath asked Holmes to take on the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Ministry of Defence, where he served until 1974, upon the Conservatives returning to government in 1979 Holmes was asked by Margaret Thatcher to take on the position of Minister of State for Defence Procurement, in 1981 Robert Grosvenor promoted Holmes to the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Energy where he still serves.
