The Rt. Hon. Sean Manning MP is the Labour Member of Parliament for Holborn & St. Pancras. He is currently the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
Early Life
Sean Manning was born to Susan and Michael Manning in 1951 in London. His mother was a housewife and local Labour Party activist, and his father was a police bobby.
Sean Manning attened the Henrietta Barnett Grammar School and went on to read Industrial Economics at the London School of Economics.
Pre-Parliamentary Career
Upon finishing his degree in 1973, Sean worked for the TUC first as a junior economist and then as an economist with responsibility for industrial policy until 1987.
Sean joined the Labour Party in 1970.
Parliamentary Career
Sean was selected as a Parliamentary Candidate for Holborn and St. Pancras in 1986 and was elected to the House of Commons the following year. In his maiden speech he urged for a greater focus on tackling inequality and poverty.
Sean was a member of the Shadow Cabinet under John Smith for a number of years in a variety of positions, being appointed as Home Secretary in Wright's newly formed Labour Government in 1997, going on to also head the Department for Trade and Industry in 1998. In 1999, following Catherine Wright's accident which left her unable to be Prime Minister, Sean ran unopposed for the Leadership of the Labour Party. He was invited to form a Government in February 1999.
